World Yoga Day 2014
For the first time in India, World Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2014 by Kaivalyadhama at its Mumbai Institute. The program was supported by Dept. of Tourism and Culture, Govt. of Maharashtra, University of Mumbai and S.N.D.T. Women’s University. The theme of World Yoga Day was “Yoga – Transforming Selves”. More than 250 students from Mumbai University and S.N.D.T University participated in this gala event.
The celebrations started in the morning at 8 a.m. with rallies by the students on the Marine Drive with display of Yoga themes in bold placards. Some asanas were also demonstrated by the students in the fresh invigorating open air of the morning.
This part of the program was basically to create an awareness of Yoga to the public and for young generation.
Eminent personalities from different walks of life were invited to share their experiences and knowledge and subtle connections with Yoga. The proceedings began with the customary chanting of the Shanti path and Lighting of the lamp. Dr. N. Ganesh Rao conducted the entire program skillfully and appropriately introducing the distinguished guests sequentially for delivering their insights for the Day. The Chief Guest for this occasion was Shri J. S. Saharia, the Chief Secretary, Maharashtra State. Shri Subodh Tiwari was the first to speak. He introduced and very lucidly gave an account of the significance of the World yoga Day. Then followed addresses by Shri J.S. Saharia, Dr. Bhushan Upadhyay (Jt. Commissioner of Police), Mr. Veer Dhawal Khade (Asian Games Bronze Medalist and distinguished swimmer), Dr. D. R. Karthekeyan (Ex-Director of CBI), Dr. Rajan Welukar (Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai) and the famous actor, Ms. Anu Aggarwal. The addresses were short, sweet and to the point, which were cheered all the way by the audience.
Shri Ruchir Bansal, Dy. Director, Kaivalyadhama, Mumbai proposed a Vote of thanks.
The third part of the program then followed. This comprised of Practical Yoga Sessions of one hour each conducted in 4 different Halls by Dr. N. Ganesh Rao / Shri Bharat Chawda, Shri Anukool Deval, Dr. G. P. Shukla and Ms. Anu Aggarwal respectively.
The participants were given free books received from Bihar School of Yoga and free CD received from Patanjali Yoga Peeth of Baba Ramdevji. These two institutions thereby lent their support to Kaivalyadhama on this momentous occasion.
All the participants and guests were provided due refreshments and departed from Kaivalyadhama grateful for the Day’s celebrations.
